Jisc selected Greenbone and Khipu Networks following a rigorous OJEU competitive tender process, saving customers time and money so they don’t have to undertake their own procurement exercise and providing value for money services for the sector. With more than 18 million network users, spanning 800 education and research organisations, it was vital the chosen solution could meet their requirements to quickly identify and prevent vulnerabilities. Greenbone Security Manager was selected as the most economically advantageous solution.
Dirk Schrader, chief marketing officer of Greenbone Networks, says: “We see the agreement with Jisc as a major step into the UK market. The service meets the highest security standards and is specifically tailored to meet the needs of the UK education and research sector, offering customers the flexibility to scan their own networks and request bespoke reports. The Greenbone Security Manager is easy to implement and integrate with existing IT systems, enabling customers to analyse their IT network devices, identify security vulnerabilities and resolve security issues.”
“In improving information security, UK education and research organisations recognise the importance of identifying vulnerabilities that may affect their networks,” says Steve Kennett, head of operational services at Jisc. “The technology behind the vulnerability assessment service in this framework agreement directly addresses the security risks facing organisations in protecting their networks.” “We are really pleased to be selected as the single supplier to Jisc for the Vulnerability Assessment Service, and I believe this reflects our focus and commitment to securing our customers critical networks and data, with next-generation security solutions such as Greenbone’s Security Manager.” states Dave Spence, Senior Account Manager at Khipu Networks. “As we see a huge increase in successful attacks, both targeted and drive-by, an organisation’s first line of defence to minimise these threats should be to reduce the attack surface. Quite simply the fewer number of vulnerabilities residing within an organisations environment, the less likely a hacker can do any real harm. Not only does this protect the users and data of the organisation, but also the reputation and trust that can be lost from these breaches.” Greenbone Security Manager identifies security vulnerabilities that may affect customer’s networks and evaluates their risk potential. It also recommends measures to resolve detected vulnerabilities. As a result, organisations can identify weak points in their IT estate to help protect themselves against cyber attacks. A daily security update feed with more than 46,000 network vulnerability tests also forms part of the solution. In contrast to competing offerings, the Greenbone appliance is based on fully transparent and auditable Open Source software.
