Why We Chose to Support the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust
At KHIPU Networks, we spend a lot of time talking about technology – how it works, how it improves experiences, how it creates efficiency. But every now and then, you’re reminded why technology matters in the first place: because of the difference it can make in people’s lives.
Recently, we donated to the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust, a charity doing extraordinary work to help vulnerable people feel safe in their own homes. And the impact of that support has been genuinely inspiring to see.
Thanks in part to our contribution, the charity has now reached a milestone of 160 Digital Doorbell installations across Wiltshire. That number matters – but what matters more is what sits behind it.
For many of the people supported by the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust, daily life includes a level of anxiety that most of us rarely think about. Many are elderly, living alone, or have already experienced crime. Something as ordinary as a knock at the door can feel unsettling – or even frightening.
The Digital Doorbells being installed change that experience completely. They allow residents to see and speak to whoever is outside, while staying safely behind a locked door. It’s simple technology, but its effect is powerful: reassurance, confidence, and a renewed sense of control.
What makes the Trust’s work especially impactful is how accessible they make it. They don’t just install the technology – they provide hands-on guidance and ongoing support, and they do it at a cost far below commercial alternative. For people who can’t afford it at all, the Trust can offer the equipment free or at a reduced rate. That’s where support like ours becomes critical.
The ripple effect goes beyond individual homes too. Local police teams have highlighted how these installations can help entire communities – from deterring crime to supporting investigations when incidents do occur. As one officer put it, securing one home can help secure a whole street.
For us at KHIPU, supporting the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust aligns closely with our values. We believe technology should be practical, accessible, and genuinely useful – not just innovative for innovation’s sake. Seeing it used so directly to protect people and strengthen communities is a powerful reminder of that.
We’re incredibly grateful to the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust for the work they do every day, and proud to support a project that delivers such meaningful, real-world impact. Sometimes it’s the simplest tools – delivered with care, expertise, and empathy – that make the biggest difference.
