Venezuelan president in apparent assassination attempt by explosive-carrying drones
On 5th August, news reported that as Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro gave a speech in Caracas, drones carrying explosives approached him and detonated. In a statement on Venezuelan network VTV, the Minister of Interior Justice and Peace, Néstor Reverol, indicated two drones were involved, each carrying 1 kg of C4 explosive. The assassination attempt failed, but while Maduro was unharmed, several soldiers were reported to be injured.
What happened in Venezuela is a stark reminder of the power of drones as weapons. This isn’t the first time drones have been used for malicious purposes, and it won’t be the last.
