StepChange Debt Charity Takes Positive Steps Towards a More Secure Future Through Simulated Phishing (PhaaS).

The Charity recognised the growing necessity to enhance cyber security awareness within their organisation to mitigate the risks associated with a rise in increasingly sophisticated phishing attacks. Now, with KHIPU’s simulated phishing services (PhaaS), the organisation has sought a solution to simultaneously train its staff and raise awareness about the potential dangers of phishing threats.

Tailored Simulated
Phishing Campaigns.

After the initial onboarding process, KHIPU’s team of cyber security and simulated phishing specialists worked closely with the team at StepChange to gain a deep understanding of the organisation’s structure, operations, and potential cyber threat vulnerabilities. Once established, KHIPU designed and executed two separate phishing campaigns which were specifically tailored to StepChange’s environment.

The campaigns were crafted to be both unique and challenging for StepChange users, ensuring a realistic training experience, and emphasising the dangers of clicking on emails and links that could pose a threat to the continuity of their network security. In addition, the campaigns aimed to empower staff at all levels to recognise and respond effectively to potential phishing attacks.

Collaboration & Delivery.

Throughout the process, the KHIPU Team collaborated with their StepChange counterparts to ensure the phishing campaigns were delivered in sharp alignment with their broader organisational goals, achieving resonance at all staff levels, and providing comprehensive, actionable reporting.

The resulting simulated phishing reports offered valuable insights, empowering StepChange to proactively implement measures that strengthened their overall cyber security posture.

Cyber Security Threat
Awareness & Understanding.

KHIPU’s simulated phishing services have brought about multifaceted benefits for StepChange Debt Charity. Not only did the delivery of the campaigns facilitate the identification of previously undiscovered organisational weaknesses, but also provided a means to continuously measure their cyber risk profile. The service also played a pivotal role in rapidly enhancing users’ understanding of the risks associated with phishing, equipping them with the knowledge to discern potential threats both now and into the future.

The immediate awareness generated was widespread, effectively reaching those in need of better information without singling out individuals. On completion of the initial campaign, StepChange witnessed a marked improvement in its security posture, and worked with KHIPU to build upon this foundation through an ongoing training plan for sustained awareness and education.

Notably, the simulated phishing campaigns were delivered cost-effectively, ensuring StepChange’s proactive protection against phishing threats remained a viable and efficient long-term strategy.

Commenting on the delivery of the simulated phishing campaigns and his experience of working with KHIPU, Luke Saxby, IT Service Desk Manager at StepChange, said: “We highly recommend KHIPU for their professionalism, technical proficiency, and the positive impact they have made on our organisation’s cybersecurity awareness.

The success of both campaigns, which were recognised at a board level, is a testament to KHIPU’s commitment to excellence and their ability to adapt to the unique needs of their clients.”

He continued: “StepChange Debt Charity looks forward to continuing our work with KHIPU to further enhance our cybersecurity initiatives and safeguard our users from potential threats.”

What Next?

StepChange Debt Charity have since expressed their intent to continue working with KHIPU, with more simulated phishing campaigns planned. By taking this positive and proactive approach, Luke and his team are continuously strengthening their overall cyber security whilst empowering their staff with the critical knowledge required to stay ahead of would-be cybercriminals.

“We are delighted to have worked closely with StepChange Debt Charity in providing tailored phishing awareness training. Our commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction is evident in the success of the campaigns and we look forward to continuing our partnership whilst further enhancing their cybersecurity initiatives.”
