The results highlight a critical change in how organisations – particularly those in Higher Education and complex public sector environments – view their cyber security ‘stack’.

Visibility Blind Spot

The most striking result was that 50% of our respondents stated a desire to prioritise “Full visibility and audit trails (e.g., session recording) for contractors.” Contrary to our expectations, this even outweighed the concern for Gen AI data leaks.

Key Takeaway: The organisations we polled are comfortable securing their users on managed devices, but they feel completely blind when it comes to third parties. Traditional VPNs show contractors connected to the network, but they don’t show what that contractor did inside the given application. The demand for session recording suggests that compliance and detailed accountability are now top-of-mind for many public sector organisations.

No More Friction

41.67% of our audience identified “Applying granular controls without a VPN or agent” as their most desired capability from a tool such a Palo Alto Networks’ Prisma Browser.

Key Takeaway: There is significant ‘agent fatigue’, meaning that security teams are tired of the helpdesk tickets generated by broken VPN tunnels or MDM profiles on personal student/faculty devices. The move toward a Browser-Native solution (such as Prisma Browser) represents a desire for security that is “invisible” to the end-user but absolute for network administrators.

90% are still ‘Securing the Pipe’, not the Data

When asked what they currently rely on for BYOD, 50% of our webinar attendees said VPN/GlobalProtect and 40% said MDM.

Key Takeaway: While GlobalProtect is world-class for network security, it was never designed to stop a user from downloading sensitive PII from a web app or taking a screenshot of research data. With only 10% of our audience currently using a browser-native security solution, there is a massive opportunity for organisations to gain a competitive advantage by closing this gap before the next major breach occurs.

Momentum for Browser Security

Finally, 50% of our audience stated they are in the “Research phase / Actively evaluating solutions.”

Conclusion: Browser security is no longer a “nice to have” and is featuring in the 2026 security plans for many in the public sector.
