Canterbury Christ Church University implements KHIPU’s SOC to provide 24x7x365 visibility and protection against Cyber Threats
Tuesday 14th February, 2023
Canterbury Christ Church University, in partnership with KHIPU, transforms and leverages existing security tools into a 24x7x365 Security Operations Centre (SOC) protected environment with sector-wide immediate response, remediation and proactive threat hunting capabilities.
A KHIPU Networks and Google Cloud collaboration to provide a community-driven approach for sector-wide cyber protection.
KHIPU’s Cloud-Native Managed Detection and Response SOC (CMDR) service is underpinned by Google Cloud’s Chronicle Security Operations. With Chronicle, KHIPU’s SOC teams have a holistic view of each customer’s threat environment, and can detect and investigate threats with Google speed, scale and intelligence. In addition, leveraging AI and automation tools powered by Palo Alto Networks XSOAR, KHIPU’s SOC teams provide immediate incident response, remediation and prevention capabilities.
Speaking on CCCU’s SOC journey, Andy Powell, Deputy Director & CTO at Canterbury Christ Church University, said:
“A big challenge for us was to find a suitable cyber security service that gave us the confidence that we are being monitored, alerted and protected 24x7x365 – especially out of hours where we could find ourselves exposed. It took us a long time to find a SOC service which was not disruptive to operate, had been designed for the education sector and one that we proved worked effectively in our environment. We are very pleased to have partnered with KHIPU on our SOC journey”.
Sarah Cockrill, Director of Digital Strategy & IT at Canterbury Christ Church University, added:
“Partnering with KHIPU allows us to effectively mitigate resourcing challenges seen across the IT sector and give, us access to specialist resource that provides us that 24/7 365-day cover. This gives us a level of protection, against cyber risks we cannot meet through our own internal resourcing alone.”
KHIPU Managed SOC Services & Google Chronicle
Chronicle is a cloud-based security, information and events management platform, built as a specialised layer on top of core Google infrastructure, designed for enterprises to privately retain, analyse, and search the massive amounts of security and network telemetry they generate. Chronicle normalises, indexes, correlates, and analyzes the data to provide instant analysis and context on risky activity.
The core offering, leveraged by KHIPU, is ingesting all of CCCU’s telemetry data and providing the organisation with a single source of truth so that they are able to threat-hunt to ensure that no malicious actors are within their environment.
Using the Google cloud infrastructure, there are no limitations to what KHIPU’s SOC teams can monitor, investigate and protect. If KHIPU’s SOC analysts detect an attack of some kind, or even unusual behaviour on the network, they can provide a rapid response to the team at CCCU.
Commenting on the partnership, Cristina Pitarch, Managing Director, EMEA Security Sales at Google Cloud, said:
“We’ve been delighted to partner with KHIPU Networks as they have built out Chronicle as the backbone to their CMDR service, utilising their expertise to ensure a service to meet the unique challenges of the education sector and now protecting Canterbury Christ Church University. We look forward to this continuing as they grow and build their offerings to this important sector”.
Managed SOC and Cyber Security Services designed for Higher and Further Education
Fianlly, with the successful implementation of KHIPU’s managed SOC security service at Canterbury Christ Church University, Guy Jermany, Chief Information Officer at the cyber security specialist, said:
“Building a cyber security service that meets the needs of HE and FE institutions takes time. In fact, it’s taken KHIPU over two years to develop and deliver a mature SOC that has the expertise, technology and processes to protect institutions from the ever-changing cyber threat landscape. We are very pleased that Canterbury Christ Church University has recognised this and selected KHIPU as its SOC partner.”
