Community SOC Conference 2023
Join KHIPU and a number of guest speakers on 30 November for a virtual event like no other.
This is not simply an event for our existing SOC community, but aims to act as an extension of it, bringing together educational institutions from both the United Kingdom and South Africa to discuss their most pressing and common cyber security challenges and, ultimately, to find collaborative ways forward.
Find out more by joining us on 30 November from 09:00 – 13:00 GMT and 11:00 – 15:00 SAST
The thinking behind the KHIPU Community SOC Conference
There has never been a more appropriate time to further emphasise the importance of our Community-based Security Operation Centre. Over the past three years, we, alongside our many customers, have witnessed a significant shift in the frequency and complexity of cyberattacks, calling for more innovative and sophisticated threat detection, response and protection solutions.
For many, if not all, higher and further education institutions, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a major shift in cyber security awareness and highlighted the necessity to evolve cyber threat detection and protection in-line with a now altered approach to work and curriculum delivery.
Remote working and an ever-growing reliance on online teaching platforms, whilst offering unprecedented flexibility, bring with them a host of new and previously unforeseen cyber security challenges, the impacts of which can be summarised into three categories:
- Skills & Recruitment
- 24×7 or ‘Out of Hours’ Support
Since 2021, these ‘pain points’ have only been amplified by a widely reported increase in cyberthreats, which have wreaked havoc on the education sector, resulting in the loss of personal data, student records and other sensitive material.
KHIPU’s 2023 Community SOC Conference aims to address these cybersecurity challenges through our in-house experts but also by providing a forum for you and your peers to discuss and collaborate. Our SOC is built on community – join us.

An interview and Q&A with Andy Powell and Paul Locke from Canterbury Christ Church University
In the dynamic realm of cybersecurity, where digital landscapes are in constant flux and threats loom around every corner, we recognize that safeguarding your organization’s digital assets is a paramount concern. Whether you are a seasoned expert or just beginning your journey into the intricacies of digital security, one question unites us all: “Who can you trust to protect your digital infrastructure and sensitive data, regardless of the time of day?”
KHIPU’s Leon Rheeder walks us through the growing importance of 24x7x365 cybersecurity services and how the KHIPU SOC can be your Night Watch – ever vigilant and ready to defend.
The dearth of new and incoming talent alongside internal and organisational factors such as staff turnover, limited budgets, lack of training etc, are some of the interconnected factors contributing to the ongoing information and cybersecurity skills deficits experienced globally by many organisations.
KHIPU’s Roshan Harneker explores one of the most pressing issues currently plaguing both the private and public sector, whilst offering practical advice and guidance aimed at helping you to combat the skills gap and help retain skilled analysts.

As part of our strategy, we have partnered with KHIPU Networks to deploy and manage Palo Alto Networks XDR solution that provides us with visibility, rapid protection and prevention against to cyber breaches. XDR, with the integration of our Next Generation Firewall environment, means that we have protection across our large campus network, cloud and endpoint environment”.
Hement Gopal // Information Security // WITS
“After an extensive review of the market and available Security Operation Centre (SOC) services, we chose KHIPU due to their experience within the sector and capabilities to be able to monitor, detect, protect and prevent threats 24x7x365 across our multi-campus estate. Using the HEITSA Framework made the overall investment significantly lower to the other service provider offerings that we considered.”
Robert Morton // TEC Partnership
“After a rigorous review of a number of technologies and pilots, we chose KHIPU due to their experience and capabilities to be able to monitor, detect and respond to threats across our entire multi-site estate, not just at the endpoint. Their service also includes 24x7x365 incident response, a mandatory requirement from us to ensure our environment has complete coverage throughout the day and night. We look forward to a successful partnership with KHIPU, sharing our experiences with similar institutions across the sector”.
James Eaglesfield // Head of IT Governance and Portfolio // University of Derby
KHIPU's SOC service gives us the granular visibility we’ve never had before. We can’t be certain what comes in through an endpoint. Cortex XDR, as part of the KHIPU SOC Service, ensures the university has a trusted endpoint and network protection strategy proven to identify, stop, and prevent attacks.
