Bradford Campus Manager Exclusively Provided by Khipu Networks since 2005, we are the sole providers and support company for this product in the UK.
The Bradford Campus Manager System is the most advanced and feature rich Network Access Control (NAC) and Identity Management solution on the market today. With over 500 successful implementations using the system by June 2008 to control and manage a wide range of different users, from students and staff, to guests (including JRS / EDUROAM users) and conference delegates, and devices including laptops / desktops / servers (Microsoft including Vista, Apple Macs and an extensive range of Linux operating systems), PDAs, iPods, VoIP and even printers.
There are now over 70 UK institutions using Campus Manager to secure ~300,000 users / devices every day
Within the UK and Ireland, the deployments were originally across the Halls of Residences (the most commonly deployed solution in the UK), all of our customers have now either extended the solution to the Campus Networks or deployed the solution across both from day one. Identity Management and Policy Enforcement have been key requirements on both the wired and wireless networks.
All of our University, College and School customers are great reference accounts, as the Campus Manager System has made a huge improvement to their Student and Campus networks from both a support and network perspective. A sample of our customers include:

Having worked within the Education sector for over eight years, Our Khipu Networks Education consultants have identified and experienced a number of problems that can plague a network on an almost daily basis. Whilst all networks are vulnerable to threats, Educational networks tend to be more open and have to support a wide range of users, applications and their devices (laptops, PC's, PDA's etc). This diversity subsequently creates a greater challenge in maintaining the performance and integrity of the services being offered. Since 2005, Khipu Networks have seen a significant increase in the number of itinerant and mobile users across the Education networks using wireless and wired access mechanisms.
If your Campus or Residential Network suffers from any of the following you can benefit from KHIPU Networks services;
- Inability to centrally register or authenticate users
- Inability to switch users into roles / vlans based upon their authentication credentials
- Inability or have significant concerns to support student owned devices on your network
- Virus, Spyware outbreaks and tracking the offenders
- Peer to Peer networking (Legal obligations, cease and decease notices)
- Increased Student support requirements
- Network performance suffering due to Spyware, Viruses, Trojans.
- Start of term headaches, New Machines and New Students, New Problems
- No knowledge of who or what is connected to the network.
- Unable to enforce or audit "Acceptable Use Policies"
- Inability to audit connected devices or recommend common builds
The Solution

Bradford Campus Manager is a user-centric, network-based solution with integrated identity management, endpoint compliance and usage policy enforcement capabilities. The solution actively monitors and controls network users and devices to provide enhanced security within the network. Through the enforcement of network usage policies, the solution ensures the network is safe and secure.
Bradford Campus Manager will help solve important network issues such as:
- Controlling unwanted users
- Enforcing anti-virus and anti-spyware version control
- Enforcing network policies
- Controlling network access
- User and device management
- Protecting against rogue devices / services
- Management of dual boot devices
- VMWare
Campus Manager collects information from the user, device and network, correlates that information with established policies, and effectively allows network administrators to take action. From a single management interface it will:
Enforce Institution Policies during network login
Before network access is granted the system can scan and check network clients for Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware software and version, Microsoft (MS) and non MS Operating System patches and service packs and / or even any application you require in order to determine client vulnerability to Viruses, Backdoors, Denial of Service, File sharing etc.
Enforce Remediation
If a client is not compliant with the Institution's policy, it is automatically routed to a secure and isolated area within the network, and is forced to remediate 'self heal' i.e. download AV software or updates, in accordance with the Institutions acceptable use policy. The device is then re-scanned and if compliant is allowed onto the main production network or to a desginated area based on who the user is (role based access). The scan is 'client-less' in that no software or agent has to be physically installed onto the device in order to scan it. Bradford Campus Manager also supports the use of a persistent client should this be required.
Improve Network Security
- Ensure the user is authorised before granting network access.
- Switch the user into the specific VLAN or Security role based on their authentication (student/staff etc)
- Identify unauthorised 'rogue' clients and take appropriate action.
- Control, disable and restrict end-user access.
- Record all activity of the user and the status of their client device.
Improve Network Control and Management
- Port based registration and LDAP integration
- Locate network users and problems associated
- Control student gaming, file sharing and chatting
- Enable and disable switch ports regardless of manufacturer
- Preferred VLAN switching and Dynamic VLAN assignment
- Control of wireless access as well as direct connections
- DHCP / DNS Server Management and more...
Benefits to the Institution
- Bradford Campus Manager will enable Institutions to have full control over the end-user, ensuring a safe and secure network experience for all, through the enforcement of network usage policies.

"With our diverse range of users and devices requiring access to our network, we needed a solution that would provide a central point of control and accountability. We considered Bradford Campus Manager, as this solution had been implemented by a number of Universities, especially within our MAN (NorMAN). Having evaluated a number of different options, we selected Campus Manager since it met and exceeded all of our requirements for NAC. The 'client-less' scan being a key function that ensures a device meets our Acceptable Use Policy without causing any problems or difficulties for the users accessing the network. We have seen huge improvements on our network, from not only a performance perspective (no viruses or spyware) but also management is now simple and central. The system is being extended to our wireless network in the forthcoming months"
