Sussex HIS, Southampton University Hospitals and Poole Hospital to discuss Impact of Wireless Technology on Patient Services
September 15th 2008 – Networking and security integrator Khipu Networks has today announced that it will be holding a healthcare-focused wireless and security event, in conjunction with a number of its customers, at The Tower of London on October 20th 2008.
The Healthcare Secure Mobility Seminar, which will be attended by UK healthcare organisation IT managers and CIOs, is designed to highlight the growing opportunities afforded by new wireless technologies within the healthcare sector, to aid the delivery of faster, more efficient, flexible and secure 21st Century patient services.
The Seminar will feature presentations from several hospitals that are already leading the way with wireless adoption in the UK, including Sussex Health Informatics Service, Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust and Poole Hospital Foundation NHS Trust. It will also provide attendees with product demonstrations and the opportunity for one-to-one discussions with Khipu and its technology partners, including IP networking leader Alcatel-Lucent, network access control provider Bradford Networks, and wireless communications vendor Vocera.
“Wireless technology is absolutely imperative if we are to deliver the best possible quality of care to our patients,” said Bob Down, IT Manager, Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. “With wireless networks, clinical staff can instantly confirm that the right patient is receiving the right blood and the right medication, and these checks can be undertaken anywhere in the hospital. We can cut down on the paperwork while improving the safety of the services we offer. This is great for both staff and patients.”
Khipu Networks is one of the leading security integrators in the UK, and delivers secure network infrastructure solutions to a significant number of healthcare organisations. Its product portfolio of solutions manages more than 500,000 users on a daily basis and deployments of up to 50,000 users.
“Wireless technology adds additional resilience to existing healthcare services, while also acting as an enabler for the delivery of innovative and potentially life-saving clinical applications,” said Vil Dhutia, commercial consultant at Khipu Networks. “Furthermore, a growing number of organisations are now recognising that network access control can be key to enabling greater wired and wireless mobility without compromising security, as well as improving the efficiency of internal IT teams. Our seminar will allow key health sector personnel to witness first-hand the improvements that these technologies can bring about, encouraging more organisations to get onboard and transform their networks.”
