The International Baccalaureate (IB) works with schools in 125 countries with offices in Geneva, Bath, Beijing, Buenos Aires, Cardiff, Geneva, Mumbai, New York, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo and Vancouver.
As the IB programmes have become more popular and the organization has grown to provide increased services to their stakeholders, a greater reliance on their network meant they now require a higher degree of availability and resilience across all regions.
The way that the IB has enabled their customers and partners to work with them means that they too require access to local and global IB services for real time and historic information and reports. As their organization has developed, their workforce has become more mobile, meaning that home office and remote office operations all require access to their central databases and enterprise applications.
Gary Wood, Systems and Security Manager for the IB worked with Khipu Networks on the requirements:

The IB have chosen a VPN technology that includes the ability for users across any site to access centrally located information at any time of the day or night across all time-zones.
Gary particularly liked Khipu Networks’ flexibility:
“We had a requirement to implement in stages and Khipu Networks flexibility has helped us in having confidence in the suggested solution. Additionally, as the solution will be managed from a single site, we felt that the ability to monitor the devices as well as control and manage policies in any region without the need for additional investment was a particular feature we liked.”
Aside from the technical benefits, the solution had to provide near absolute availability. Any downtime would affect the way that their customers, remote offices and staff and partner organisations would perceive their services.
Ceri Evans, ICT Services Manager had to ensure that any solution implemented would not introduce downtime or increased risk:
“When we met with Khipu Networks, it was clear that they understood the impacts on our organisation of any downtime, not just from a loss of services perspective, but also the impacts on our teams perception within the organisation and the public image of the IBO. This has given us confidence in Khipu’s design of our network and as a partner for the future.”
