Cardiff University select Bradford Networks “Campus Manager” for their 5000 User Halls of Residence Network
Khipu Networks, an advanced systems integrator, announce that the Cardiff University have selected them for the deployment of the University's Network Access Control (NAC) solution to deliver a secure, centrally managed and flexible service to students within the Institution.
Cardiff University selected Khipu Networks as the provider of NAC for their Foundry, 3COM and Trapeze network infrastructure.
Cardiff University have traditionally created CD media based information packs for their new students who wish to connect their own devices into the Halls of Residence network. This was becoming a costly and time intense process and the University realised that with the release of Microsoft's latest Operating System, the content for their client updates would become more complex and require more resources, particularly with the support involved in students having another operating system.
The required solution had to enable students to connect into the network without the need for IT Support intervention. They needed a true “client-less” solution that would support multiple computing platforms, whilst checking operating systems, Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware applications as a minimum build quality to limit infections from student machines.
Khipu Networks proposed the use of Bradford Networks' “Campus Manager”, a proven solution that a number of Universities, Colleges and Schools have used to ensure that students have a non-complex, client-less process that is simple to use for access on both the wired and wireless networks.
The University chose Khipu Networks and the “Campus Manager” solution for their 5000 Halls of Residence students as it met their criteria for an out-of-band (not in-line) and client-less Network Access Control solution, and it fully satisfied all of the requirements within the tender published by the University.
One key requirement for Cardiff was the ability to provide a scalable and highly available solution so that ultimately, it could be rolled out to all 22,500 users across their entire campus network, without having to replace any investment. The Bradford Networks' platform has enabled the University to invest into a modular future proof solution that can scale to meet their short and long term requirements for user access.
The Campus Manager system will also allow the RESNET team to provide and manage their own conferencing network facilities, without the problems associated with creating and managing temporary user accounts during non term-time, enabling the IT team to focus their resources on other areas.
This pedigree gave Cardiff University the confidence to choose Campus Manager from Khipu Networks. Given the short timescales involved in the project, they had to go with a 'no-risk' solution from an experienced Education Sector Systems Integrator without any compromises.
