Khipu Networks, an advanced systems integrator announce that the University of Essex have selected them for the deployment of the University’s Wireless Network to deliver a secure, centrally managed and flexible service to students and staff within the Institution.
To meet the requirements of the University’s Wireless Service and strict Security policies, Khipu Networks will be implementing Alcatel’s WLAN platform integrated with Bradford Networks ‘Bradford Campus Manager’.

The integrated Alcatel WLAN and Bradford Campus Manager System will provide a complete solution to centrally manage and deliver University resources to staff and students in a secure, controlled manner, whilst being able to fully protect the wireless and wired network from unknown, unauthorised and vulnerable (Virus, Spyware infected) devices.

- Fully scalable solution can support up to 512 Access Points per Central Controller
- Fully resilient solution, where in the event of a Central Controller failure, Access Points can either automatically failover to another Central Controller, increase power to areas where coverage has been lost or provide a local service, therefore continue to provide a wireless service to the users.
- Support key applications, such as Multi-media and Voice Over IP, with true voice coverage and no loss when roaming between Access Points
- Protects the Institution from unknown and unauthorised devices attempting to connect to the network
- Enforces Security Policies, to ensure only non-vulnerable devices (i.e. with no Viruses, Spyware, unwanted, unauthorised applications) can access the network, therefore keeping the network clean and available.
- Full Auditing and Management of devices; tracking users and devices by MAC address, IP address, location and time on network
