On a number of occasions our customers ask us “so where did the name come from” or, “that’s an odd name for a company”. That may be the case, but there is a good explanation for the name Khipu.
During the Bronze Age, the Inca civilisations appeared to lack a written language; however, they were as advanced as any other civilisation in comparison with evidence of monumental architecture, technology, political and social structures to mobilise people and resources.
In order to communicate and record information, the Inca’s developed a cryptic method of communication known as a ‘Khipu’, pronounced ‘Quip-u’. A Khipu, which consisted of cryptic knotted strings, is a messaging system that to date, has never been decoded making it one of the most secure methods of communication.
We chose our name to reflect our strong focus on security – what else could be better than an ancient security system, which to date has never been broken?
